THE QUICK - ON HOLIDAY WITH EARLE MANKEY (7")

ON SALE NOW!!!!

When The Quick came to making the album Mondo Deco we were in need of an engineer. I had two ideas: James Lowe and Earle Mankey. Not only did Earle say yes, he also worked at the Beach Boys’ studio Brother, where we spent a month recording. In 1977, when Mondo Deco was finished and a bit of time had passed, Earle contacted various band members as he had wanted to demo a song. We headed to Earle's home studio in Santa Monica where he showed us the epic “Bigger Than Life.” Earle, his brother Jim, and myself cut the track, Danny Wilde sang lead with Ian and Billy on harmonies and that was that. This version made the rounds around a few Quick fans, thinking it was a Steven Hufsteter original. But Steven was in the Valley and this stayed unreleased until now. Danny Wilde had an original as well, Beautiful Island. A tip to his fave, Brian Eno. There was very little outlet at the time for his songs. So we called Earle, headed over, and cut the track with the same line-up. I got to play phone books! This has remained unreleased until Earle found the original tapes for this 45. The Quick take a holiday to Earle Mankey's house and we hope you enjoy this day off from our regular jobs. - DANNY BENAIR, 2011
